Von Willebrand's disease is the most common hereditary coagulation abnormality in humans. It arises from a deficiency of von Willebrand factor, a protein that is required for platelet adhesion.

The various types of Von Willebrand's Disease present with varying degrees of bleeding tendency. Severe internal or joint bleeding is rare. The most common symptoms include:

• bruising
• nosebleeds
• heavy menstrual periods (in women)
